Was the 1st NYPOWER the one that also became a NSL at the last minute? Has anyone here been around long enough to know this? Am I the only old person here?

  Launch Report October 3rd & 4th
Posted by: mpleban - 10-08-2015, 01:42 PM - Forum: Launches - Replies (2)

Well for those who did not show up Saturday, we still had plenty of rockets in the air even with the light rain all day.
Some children show up and had a birthday party fly day.
Sunday was a lot better weather wise. with sun and high clouds.
A Team from RIT came out to check out the club and get some information from us. I believe Tom Ha talked to them and Tom Cohen show them the Set Up of the rockets on the pads.

We had one Level 1 cert flight by Maher Alchtar, who flew a SUPER BATRAY on a  H 143 Smokey Sam. his flight was successful. Congrats.

Also Tom McCarthy had a Birthday on Sunday.  Both of his high power flights landed at the flight line. The Rocket gods smiled on him that day.

  a contest on October 3.
Posted by: mpleban - 09-21-2015, 07:58 PM - Forum: Launches - Replies (2)

Hi everyone,  I have decided to offer up 4 bags of mini chocolate bars for this contest.
entry fee is to fly one rocket per guess. Yes I said guess. Most of you know that I have "hot rodded" a estes Red Max.
it will be its 12th flight. It will fly on a CTI  E-75  V-MAX motor.
there will be four categories to place your guess in.
They are.........Maximum Altitude (in feet), .........Maximum Speed,(in  MPH)......Maximum G-force,.....and Average G-force..    G-force guesses should be in tenths.  ie  2.2g    3.8g    1.7gs
All measurements will be done by the Jolly Logic Altimeter 2.

I will be the judge as well as whoever is the LCO at the time.
standard contest rules apply. Closest guess without going over wins that category.  NO DUPLICATE GUESSES, so if someone already choose your guess, you will have to choose another.
Hopefully I will fly between 3 and 3:30 Saturday.

Good Luck to all

  Pad parts
Posted by: jsekol - 09-13-2015, 11:39 AM - Forum: Buy and Sell - Replies (4)

I once built some launch pads for MARS, and the Syracuse people, and maybe a few others here and there. I dunno where any of them are anymore, but I do know where some leftover parts are. I have side plates for the 2" square tube leg style pad, 8 pairs, and a pair for the 3" square tube leg version.

See picture here:

Free to a good home, similar pricing to any other kind. Pickup in Chili NY, ship for cost, maybe deliver to October launch. I can provide CAD geometry or possibly drawings for the additional parts needed to build a pad from these.

  September 5th & 6th Launch Report
Posted by: mpleban - 09-07-2015, 10:41 PM - Forum: Launches - No Replies

For everyone that showed up on Saturday, we finally had July weather. Temperatures hit 90 degrees, so I was told. With some wind, not enough to cool it down.
Sunday was more of the same with some rain tossed in for good measure.

We had a Tarc team show up to check the launch facilities for their future flights. And The WOMEN OF STEEL From Holland NY.(I believe that is where they are from) showed up for their third year in a row to Fly their Tarc Challenge. Good Luck for both teams.

We did have a level 1 Cert flight by Ian Dykers. He flew his Rocket L1 on a H54 with an expected altitude of 2000 feet. His flight was successful.

Bill CLune flew his  Miss Riley on its' 44 flight.

Evan Brown decided to Torture his Estes Maxi Alpha 3 on a few high thrust F motors. For those who were not close enough to hear,  that rocket buzzed on the way up due to fin flutter. Yes the rocket stayed in one piece. Evan should have videos somewhere posted.

Rich Mulvey has some pictures on the forum of sundays flights, so goe check them out.

I finally jump up to a K motor. not a  successful flight, but not a failure either. only some minor damage on the nosecone. and destroyed my marsa 4 alt.
had high speed separation and the nosecone came down without a chute. the rest came down under the main chute.
