Our final meeting pre-launch season is coming up!
Posted by: gyoung - 03-31-2016, 08:16 AM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (1)

Just a reminder that our last club meeting before launch season commences will be held next Thursday April 7th starting at 7pm at RIT.
The last meeting where JD and David demonstrated our new state of the art, fail safe, and completely water proof (as shown by it working while fully submersed in water!) launch system was exciting to say the least.
At this meeting we will be reviewing information and final preparations on our several outreach activities, NYPOWER, etc.
See you then!

  NYPOWER 20 is coming!
Posted by: gyoung - 03-19-2016, 05:44 PM - Forum: NYPOWER - Replies (2)

T minus 2 months until NYPOWER 20 becomes reality ... It will be one fun launch weekend!
We will be auctioning off some rare Estes kits.
NYPOWER 20 will feature the first night launch Geneseo has seen! (Be sure to have your LEDs ready to go.)
We may have some LED sticks available for sale.
Since WNY'ers always know how to eat well, we will once again be offering BBQ lunches from the 3 Legged Pig.
Be sure to check out our NYPOWER website: NYPOWER.ORG
See you all in May! Smile

  Kit Attenuator Build
Posted by: nkinsey - 02-12-2016, 03:48 PM - Forum: Your Projects - Replies (3)

Saw someone at an URRG launch with one of these kits, so I bought a couple to try out.  They're available here- http://kc9on.com/store/kits/fox-hunt-offset-attenuator/

Circuit board included, through hole soldering, nothing too terribly hard to get to work, as long as you've had a decent amount of simple soldering experience.  Drilling the holes in the case is probably more challenging depending on equipment.

Followed the directions and got it together, and like, OMG... it works!  There's a trimmer on the board that will allow for attenuation tuning beyond what the knob does, and I think I need to play with that.  Like the arrow antennas attenuator it's very sensitive.  Right now it's freezing cold and windy so we'll have to wait for warmer weather to continue experimenting.

Arrow's device is $59 plus shipping.  This was $8, plus shipping, buying a box, a pair of co-ax connectors, and a whole bunch of assembly time.  Not sure which is the better deal!  I'll report back later when I get a chance to tune it.  As is, at full attenuation, it does kill the signal completely at about 20ft outdoors.

I don't have assembly pics, didn't have the camera when I was soldering.

Was the 1st NYPOWER the one that also became a NSL at the last minute? Has anyone here been around long enough to know this? Am I the only old person here?

  Launch Report October 3rd & 4th
Posted by: mpleban - 10-08-2015, 01:42 PM - Forum: Launches - Replies (2)

Well for those who did not show up Saturday, we still had plenty of rockets in the air even with the light rain all day.
Some children show up and had a birthday party fly day.
Sunday was a lot better weather wise. with sun and high clouds.
A Team from RIT came out to check out the club and get some information from us. I believe Tom Ha talked to them and Tom Cohen show them the Set Up of the rockets on the pads.

We had one Level 1 cert flight by Maher Alchtar, who flew a SUPER BATRAY on a  H 143 Smokey Sam. his flight was successful. Congrats.

Also Tom McCarthy had a Birthday on Sunday.  Both of his high power flights landed at the flight line. The Rocket gods smiled on him that day.

  a contest on October 3.
Posted by: mpleban - 09-21-2015, 07:58 PM - Forum: Launches - Replies (2)

Hi everyone,  I have decided to offer up 4 bags of mini chocolate bars for this contest.
entry fee is to fly one rocket per guess. Yes I said guess. Most of you know that I have "hot rodded" a estes Red Max.
it will be its 12th flight. It will fly on a CTI  E-75  V-MAX motor.
there will be four categories to place your guess in.
They are.........Maximum Altitude (in feet), .........Maximum Speed,(in  MPH)......Maximum G-force,.....and Average G-force..    G-force guesses should be in tenths.  ie  2.2g    3.8g    1.7gs
All measurements will be done by the Jolly Logic Altimeter 2.

I will be the judge as well as whoever is the LCO at the time.
standard contest rules apply. Closest guess without going over wins that category.  NO DUPLICATE GUESSES, so if someone already choose your guess, you will have to choose another.
Hopefully I will fly between 3 and 3:30 Saturday.

Good Luck to all
