  October 1st & 2nd launch report
Posted by: mpleban - 10-07-2016, 01:17 PM - Forum: Launches - No Replies

This was probably the warmest October launch since  I joined the club. The weather did not disappoint and gave us some more wind and rain.
On Saturday Cub Scout pack 152 showed up and flew with us, the boys had a good time. Greg showed them how to pack their rockets.
Also on Sunday we celebrated Tom M. Birthday. Mary Beth baked a very delicious cake for the occasion and Bill did his best imitation of Marylin  Monroe singing Happy Birthday Mister President. We had a very good time with that.
We had a failed level 2 flight. The motor blew on the pad.

Sunday we shut the range down a little early due to a incoming thunderstorm. The trailer was about 95% packed by the time the rain came.

now for the report

  September 17 & 18th launch report
Posted by: mpleban - 09-22-2016, 01:44 PM - Forum: Launches - Replies (1)

Well once again we had a Saturday that was a little wet, and we shut the range down around 3:00. Sunday was a little better, but higher winds wanted  to push all the rockets into the beans, except Jacksons' Beanseeker rocket. the rocket never found the beans.
And Evan after couple of years finally managed to fly the fins off of his Maxim Alpha 3.

We had a TARC. team from Immaculate conception show up and do their practice flights.
Cub scout pack 272 from Cheektowaga showed up and flew for fun.

We had a lot of spectators on saturday, which was good to see. Sunday was the National Warplane Museum annual chicken dinner. The range was closed between 1 and 2 so everyone could go to the dinner.

What do folks think about getting a fire broom for our launches?
Talking with some fire experts recently they recommended this, along with use of water based fire extinguishers, as opposed to chemical ones, for grass fires..

  July 23rd & 24th launch

For the weekend we had plenty of sunshine for both days. The winds were strong on Saturday but not strong enough to shut the range down. we had a few high power flights, and a decent showing of low power flights.  A group of scouts showed up and flew there Alphas.
Sunday was almost a perfect day, plenty of sun and almost no wind. We saw more high power flights. what little breeze that showed up was only the results of thermals moving through the area.
We had a couple Level 1 Cert flights this weekend.

Wayne Hayes flew a Loc Forte on I 212    And
Dan McNeal  flew a Loc V-2 on a  H 163   Congrats to you both.

Marybeth and Bill Clune flew their "Miss Riley" on its 50th flight this sunday.

MaryBeth Clune and Dennis Jurus help me run the range on sunday  and I Thank you two very much for the help.

 Now for the flights summery

  v-max motors
Posted by: mpleban - 07-13-2016, 06:27 PM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (4)

I was browsing the NAR website when I came across this article.
all V-MAX motors must have a redundancy deployment system in use due to snuffing of the delay charge due to acceleration g's.
this article is posted on June 3 along with Tripolli and voices their concerns over this matter. The restriction will be lifted with CTI can show that this problem is corrected.
I have not come across this and I love to fly V-MAX motors.

For those who showed up and braved the high winds on both saturday and Sunday.  Thank you.

Well everyone knows that we did not have a very good turnout this weekend. The weather was cloudy at the start but most of the clouds left by mid afternoon Saturday. And Sunday was mostly sunny but the wind on both days was a bit high and forced a early shutdown on Sunday.

We did have a couple a groups show to fly with us on Saturday. One group was from a sixth grade class from Geneseo hosted by Tim Adams, another was a group of scouts from Alegany and Cataragus host by Mike Pleban. Evan Brown was to host another group of scouts, but they did not show up.

We did have some flights mostly low power and a few highpower.
